Credit Investment and ABS Valuation Lead, Deloitte

Bruce Spector is Credit Investment and ABS Valuation Lead in the Valuation Services Practice of Deloitte Transactions and Business Analytics LLP’s Advisory Service practice. He has over thirty-five years of experience in banking, capital markets, and professional services firms and his clients include some of the largest investment managers and commercial banks.

In his role he manages the delivery of comprehensive credit analyses of prospective investments and recurring valuations on multibillion-dollar portfolios of level 3 investments. He has developed some of Deloitte’s most complex valuation models and his investment coverage includes:

  • SRTs
  • Private credit
  • (Non)recourse project financing
  • Bespoke ABS products, and
  • Leverage and distressed credit

Bruce conducts ongoing evaluations of the credit and financial strength of borrowers and monitors trends in portfolios, including estimation of potential impairments, and evolution of counterparty credit risk and shadow ratings.

He performs distressed and liquidation analyses, gauges market liquidity, and evaluates reasonableness of potential hedging and exit strategies, and restructuring transactions.

He interacts closely with portfolio managers, CFO function, and other interested parties to tailor investment analyses and corresponding reports to communicate what is relevant in a clear and concise manner. Further, he responds to ad hoc reporting requests such as those presented by external auditors, regulators, and legal counsel.

Bruce has also been an Adjunct Professor with Fordham University’s Gabelli School of Business where he taught classes in corporate finance, the capital markets, and financial modeling. Thus, he brings both applied and academic approaches to credit and valuation, having structured, traded, and managed numerous bank and capital markets products including fixed income, credit markets, structured credit, derivatives, equity products, municipal credit, and consumer finance.

Among his prior activities, Bruce consulted to the Irish Government in determining individual asset ratings and impairments for the leading Irish bank portfolios, has led Debt Capital Markets and a Leverage Loan Trading Desk, structured and sold CLOs and CDOs, was Managing Director at a distressed investment advisory organization, and managed a multi-billion dollar global debt portfolio. He has had significant P&L responsibility including financial reporting.

Bruce earned an MBA from the Duke University Fuqua School Business and a BA from the University of Pennsylvania.
